Eleven elephants from Ayutthaya marched Tuesday morning near the Grand Palace in Bangkok to celebrate the coronation of King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand.
The pachyderms had put on their best uniforms and marched from 9:09 a.m. for approximately one hour.
They left from the Territorial Defence Command to arrive in front of the Emerald Buddha Temple, which is about 600 meters.
Plai Siam, a male, carried the royal emblem, guiding his ten other congeners in this rhythmic procession by the sound of the drums.
The elephants and the men who accompanied them also stopped to pay tribute to the royal portrait. Then, the trainers sang the royal anthem as a sign of loyalty to His Majesty the King.
The Ayutthaya Elephant Palace and its officials carried these 11 animals by truck from Ayutthaya province at 2:00 am on Tuesday morning. This journey took approximately two hours.
Upon arrival at the Territorial Defence Command, the pachyderms were dressed and a ceremony preceded the parade.
This initiative follows the King of Thailand’s coronation ceremonies held from Saturday, May 4 to Monday, May 6, 2019.
